DOK 2

The teacher will write the following on the board:  Albert Einstein enjoyed sailing.  He liked to play the violin.  He had fun putting together jigsaw puzzles.  He like riding his bicycle everywhere.

 

The teacher will point out the main idea sentence, will name the person and tell the students the main idea is what the students

did in all the sentences.

 

The teacher will ask selected students for responses.  Students will work in pairs to determine the main idea from selected passages.

Students will be asked to define the underlined word and then provide an appropriate synonym and antonyms to replace it.

 

Students will work with a partner to replace words with synonyms and antonyms

 

Students will complete definitional synonyms and antonyms independent practice.

 The teacher will display a short passage on the overhead and explain to students that drawing conclusion is based on both prior knowledge and what has been read.  The teacher will explain to students that inference is just another word for conclusion.

 

Students will complete story web with details to create conclusion about a passage.

 

Students will work with a partner to determine the conclusion of a passage.

The teacher will write the following sentences:  1.  The merchandise that we purchased at Marshall’s is similar to the product that we purchased at TJ Max.  2.  Dave is very loquacious, but her brother Nick is quiet and reserved. 

 

Selected students will choose the correct definitional synonyms and antonyms from the sentences.

 

Students will work with a partner to label synonyms and antonyms.
